Man arrested on domestic charges in Virgil

VIRGIL, NY — A Binghamton man was arrested following a domestic disturbance at a water park in Cortland County.

Jay A. Voorhis, 30, of Binghamton, was taken into custody at 8:37 p.m. on Nov. 29.

Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hope Lake Water Park, located at 2195 Clute Road, at approximately 7:23 p.m. for a report of a domestic disturbance.

Authorities determined that Voorhis engaged in a physical altercation with a known victim while in the presence of several children.

Voorhis was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child and harassment in the second degree.

He was transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing.

Voorhis was arraigned through the Centralized Arraignment Process at approximately 8 a.m. on Nov. 30 and released on his own recognizance.

His next court appearance is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 in the Town of Virgil Court.
