COHASSET, MA — A Holbrook man was arrested early Sunday morning following a traffic stop that began in Cohasset and ended in Scituate.
At approximately 1:18 a.m., Officer Kevin Lynch observed a vehicle traveling 61 mph in a posted 35 mph zone on Chief Justice Cushing Highway.
When emergency lights and siren were activated, the operator initially failed to stop, crossing into Scituate before eventually pulling over on Chief Justice Cushing Highway near Booth Hill Road.
Upon approach, officers observed an open bottle of tequila inside the vehicle and two unrestrained children, ages nine and five.
The driver, identified as Milton Duarte, 34, of Holbrook, showed clear signs of impairment and submitted to field sobriety testing, which he failed.
Both children were safely transported to Cohasset Police Headquarters, and their mother later took custody.
Duarte was arrested and charged with OUI liquor, third offense; OUI while license suspended for OUI; child endangerment while operating under the influence; speeding; open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle; and failure to properly restrain children under 12.
Bail was set at $5,000 and Duarte was held in custody until Monday morning.
The vehicle was towed and held under Massachusetts law.
A mandated report was filed with the Department of Children and Families.
