Man arrested in fatal shooting in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — A Texas man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday night.

Daevon Shular, 21, of Seguin, Texas, was arrested at approximately 10:15 a.m. Monday in connection with the shooting.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to the 0-100 block of Home Street for a report of a gunshot victim.

Officers located an adult male gunshot victim inside an apartment.

The victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit under the direction of Captain Trent Duda began investigating and identified Shular as a suspect.

Shular was arrested Monday morning at Baystate Medical Center.

Shular was privately transported to the hospital Sunday night due to a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Shular is charged with murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and attempt to commit a crime (armed robbery).

The investigation is being conducted by the Springfield Police Homicide Unit in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit.
