FAIRFIELD, NJ — A 19-year-old man was arrested after allegedly pointing an airsoft gun at buildings and people in a shopping center parking lot.
Radimire Tavarez, of Garfield, was taken into custody following a motor vehicle stop on Nov. 29.
At approximately 11:03 a.m., the Fairfield Police Department received a call reporting a male with a handgun in the parking lot of 363 Route 46 West.
The caller reported witnessing the male pointing the gun at several buildings and people before leaving the area in a black Nissan Rogue.
The caller provided a partial New Jersey registration for the vehicle to police.
Officer Jesse Schnackenberg located a vehicle on Fairfield Road matching the description and partial license plate.
A motor vehicle stop was conducted to investigate the complaint.
Officers located a Glock 26 style airsoft gun in the vehicle.
Investigation determined that Tavarez had allegedly been in possession of the weapon at the time of the initial call to police.
Tavarez was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was processed.
He was charged with possession of an imitation firearm and disorderly conduct.
He was later released pending an initial court date at the Essex County Courthouse.
