Man arrested on firearm charges in Mattapan

BOSTON, MA — A Dorchester man faces multiple firearm charges following an early morning traffic stop on Gallivan Boulevard.

Officers assigned to District B-3 arrested Nicholas Knight, 32, of Dorchester, on Thursday.

At about 2:30 a.m., officers observed a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed towards Gallivan Boulevard.

Officers activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle slowed down and traveled a short distance before stopping.

As officers approached the vehicle, they observed a holstered firearm inside the open glove compartment.

Knight was ordered out of the vehicle and placed into handcuffs.

District detectives responded to the scene and determined the firearm to be a Smith & Wesson SD9 VE with fourteen rounds in the magazine, which was capable of holding sixteen total rounds.

The firearm was reported stolen.

Knight is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a large capacity firearm and receiving stolen property under $1,200.

Knight was also issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for speed exceeding the posted limit.
