PHILLIPSBURG, NJ — A 20-year-old man was sentenced Friday to seven years in New Jersey State Prison for aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a handgun.

Andrew R. Weaver, of Phillipsburg, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, both second-degree crimes.

Warren County Superior Court Judge H. Matthew Curry sentenced Weaver, who must serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

On Aug. 3, members of the Phillipsburg Police Department responded to the 400 block of Anderson Street after receiving an alert from Phillipsburg’s ShotSpotter.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a suspect had fired several shots at a residence, one of which penetrated through a window but did not strike anyone.

Video footage of the area identified the shooter as Weaver.

Weaver was criminally charged and entered as a wanted person in the National Crime Information Center database.

On the same date, the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Weaver after a motor vehicle stop was conducted on a car in which he was a passenger.

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Glock 9mm handgun.
