UTICA, NY — A Yorkville man was arrested after allegedly pointing a handgun at two people and threatening them.
Utica Police units were dispatched to the area of State Street and Mandeville Street at approximately 12:10 p.m. on Nov. 26 regarding a menacing investigation involving a handgun.
Officers spoke with two people who stated that a man they were familiar with approached them and asked if they were ready to die while pulling a handgun from his coat and pointing it at them.
The man then approached them closer, verbally threatening them again before walking away from the scene.
Officers were provided a description and possible location where the man may be traveling to.
While conducting an area check, officers located a man matching the description standing near a vehicle on Erie Street near Jason Street.
As he noticed the officers, he turned his body for a moment, then entered the vehicle, and initially was uncooperative with the officers as they began to speak with him.
He eventually provided a name similar to, but not matching what was provided as the suspect name.
After viewing a photograph and confirming the man they had stopped was in fact the suspect, officers removed him from the vehicle and detained him.
After further confirmation that the man stopped was in fact the man who menaced the parties, a search of his person was undertaken as he was then formally under arrest.
During the course of the search, a large plastic bag containing suspected narcotics was located secreted in his underwear.
A search of the immediate area where officers had first noticed the man was undertaken, and officers located a loaded handgun matching the description provided near the tire of the vehicle.
Austin Worn, 35, of Yorkville, was transported to the Utica Police Department.
Worn was charged with menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (two counts for intent to sell cocaine and fentanyl), criminal possession of controlled substance in the fourth degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree (two counts) and false personation.
