CAIRO, NY — Three people have been charged in connection with the death of a 69-year-old man whose remains were found on his property following a missing persons investigation.

Roger Pitt of Cairo was initially reported missing on Nov. 18, according to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

The Cairo Police Department began the investigation after family members reported that Pitt had gathered his belongings and left the area in his 1987 Mercedes Benz.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office later assumed control of the case as more resources were required.

Investigators determined the initial reports made by Pitt’s family members were inconsistent with their findings, leading to the execution of several search warrants.

Pitt’s remains were discovered on his property during the investigation.

Rodney Pitt, 46, and Drew White, 23, both of Cairo, have been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree conspiracy, tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse.

Tania Pitt, 43, of Cairo, was charged with tampering with physical evidence and sixth-degree conspiracy.

All three were arraigned before Judge Dorpfeld in Town of Coxsackie Court.

Rodney Pitt and White were committed to the Greene County Jail without bail.

Tania Pitt was released and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Cairo Police Department were assisted by the New York State Police and the Greene County District Attorney’s Office.
