NORTH TROY, VT — Vermont State Police arrested a motorist on suspicion of DUI after his vehicle crashed onto train tracks Wednesday afternoon.
Harrison Batt, 28, of North Troy, was driving north on Elm Street at approximately 3:37 p.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Railroad Street, according to police.
Batt continued through the intersection at travel speed, drove across a vacant parking lot and through shrubbery before coming to rest on the train tracks, police said.
Batt was driving a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta that sustained damage to the front end, driver side panels and undercarriage.
The driver sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Troopers who responded to the scene observed indicators of impairment, police said.
Following an investigation, Batt was taken into custody and transported to the Derby Barracks for processing.
He was later released with a citation.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
Road conditions were dry and weather was cloudy at the time of the crash.
