UTICA, NY — A woman was arrested and charged with grand larceny after police found her inside a stolen vehicle on Nov. 24.

Utica Police units were dispatched to a residence on the 1200 block of Park Avenue regarding a trespassing complaint.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the offender and began to escort her from the building.

As they exited, the woman entered a vehicle nearby, locked the doors and pretended to fall asleep.

She refused to open the doors or engage with the officers.

Officers learned that the vehicle she was in had been reported stolen on Nov. 23.

Upon contacting the registered owner, it was determined that the woman had no right to have the vehicle.

The owner arrived on scene with a set of keys and unlocked the vehicle.

Officers attempted again to request the woman exit the vehicle, however she continued to ignore them.

Officers removed her from the vehicle and she was detained for further investigation.

Upon viewing surveillance footage from the theft, it was determined that the woman was the same person who stole the vehicle from Lafayette Street on Nov. 23.

Amber Beaton, 41, of no known address, was transported to the Utica Police Department and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree.
