Man arrested on weapons charges in Rome

ROME, NY — A man was arrested after allegedly pointing a handgun at a victim holding a child during a domestic dispute Friday night.

Officers from the Rome Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a residence in the 100 block of North Madison Street at approximately 11:38 p.m. Nov. 21 for a reported domestic dispute.

During the investigation, it was alleged that Jhimaal M. Lasco, 33, of Rome, pointed a handgun at the victim during an argument and threatened to kill the victim, who was holding a child at the time.

Officers later learned that an active order of protection was in place against Lasco, with the victim listed as the protected party.

Patrol officers spoke with Lasco at the residence and conducted a pat-frisk, during which they discovered a loaded 9mm handgun equipped with an extended high-capacity magazine in the chest pocket of his jacket.

Lasco was taken into custody without further incident.

A more thorough search at Rome Police Headquarters resulted in the discovery of a quantity of narcotics on his person.

Lasco was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal contempt in the first degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, menacing in the second degree and endangering the welfare of a child.

Lasco is being held pending arraignment.
