Stolen car crashes into 6 parked vehicles in North Tonawanda

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY — A 14-year-old driver crashed a stolen car into six parked vehicles early Sunday morning before fleeing on foot, police said.

A North Tonawanda police officer responding to a call on Webster Street at approximately 2:21 a.m. Nov. 23 observed a blue Hyundai Sonata traveling northbound.

The Sonata crashed into two parked vehicles on Webster Street and continued northbound.

The vehicle struck four more parked cars before becoming disabled and coming to rest.

The 14-year-old driver fled on foot while a 17-year-old male passenger remained in the vehicle with serious injuries to his lower body.

The Sonata had been reported stolen out of Kenmore.

The North Tonawanda Detective Bureau and Accident Investigation Team responded to process the scene.

Officers later located and detained the driver.

The driver was transported to Oishei Children’s Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The passenger was transported to ECMC for treatment.

Parents were contacted for both juveniles.

The 14-year-old driver’s parent refused to respond to take custody of him.

Damage to the six struck vehicles and the stolen Sonata is estimated to be tens of thousands of dollars.

Charges are pending against both juveniles, whose names will not be released due to their ages.
