NEWARK, NJ — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who cut a victim with a pocket knife on Nov. 16.
The victim was sitting in his vehicle at approximately 4:52 a.m. in the 200 block of Elm Street when two Hispanic males approached him and asked for a ride.
After accepting their offer of beer, the suspects got inside the car, and one of them pulled out a pocket knife, demanding his belongings.
The victim refused to comply and punched one of the suspects in the face.
Both suspects and the victim exited the vehicle and continued fighting.
The victim punched the knife-wielding suspect, who cut him in the back, while the other suspect hit him in the head with a beer bottle.
After the attack, the suspects ran away toward Ferry Street.
The suspect who had the knife wore blue jeans, black Nike sneakers, and no shirt.
He was last seen in the area of Madison Street and Downing Street.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. urges anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
