CLIFTON, ME — A 71-year-old man was arrested following a domestic violence-related standoff that lasted several hours on Nov. 24.
The Penobscot Regional Communications Center received a report around 5:15 a.m. regarding a domestic violence situation on Route 9 in Clifton, where the victim had allegedly faced threats involving a firearm.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office established a secure perimeter to ensure the safety of nearby residents and motorists.
The victim was able to exit the home safely and was unharmed during the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, along with Crisis Negotiators, investigators, and deputies, collaborated throughout the response.
After several hours of negotiation efforts, the male suspect was successfully guided out of the residence and surrendered peacefully.
Michael Olsen, 71, of Clifton was charged with domestic violence and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remains.
