Pedestrian struck in hit-and-run crash in Stamford

STAMFORD, CT — A 73-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a van in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

The collision occurred in the area of 1201 Washington Blvd. at approximately 2:39 a.m.

A 2021 Chevrolet Express van traveling southbound on Washington Boulevard struck the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross from the east side of the street to the west side.

The van did not stop and fled the scene.

The pedestrian, a Stamford resident, was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

He was transported to Stamford Hospital with very serious injuries.

Police located the van on traffic cameras shortly after the collision and broadcast a description to all officers.

Patrol Sgt. Jason Deems found the van a short time later in a parking lot near the scene.

Police identified the vehicle’s owner, Jean Vieux, 24, of Stamford.

Vieux admitted he was driving the vehicle and struck something, but did not provide further details, according to police.

He was arrested on a charge of evading responsibility and is being held on bond.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is continuing to investigate and will determine if additional charges will be filed.
