Man arrested on vandalism charges in Auburn

AUBURN, NY — On Nov. 3 at approximately 3:17 a.m., members of the Auburn Police Department responded to the area of South Lewis Street for a reported unknown trouble complaint.

Upon arrival, officers located a vehicle parked on Lawton Avenue with a broken windshield.

After speaking with individuals in the area, officers were directed to 14 South Lewis Street, where they found several windows and doors damaged.

Officers entered the apartment through an open door and discovered blood and additional damage inside the apartment.
No one was located inside the apartment at the time.

A subsequent investigation identified Jeremy T. Smith, a tenant of 14 South Lewis Street, as the suspect.

The value of the damaged property is estimated to be over $15,000.

An arrest warrant was issued for Smith, who was arrested on Nov. 20.

Jeremy T. Smith, of Auburn, was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal mischief.

He was processed and held pending arraignment.
