MIDDLETOWN, NY — The New York State Police Troop F Orange County Child Abuse Unit announced the arrest of Zenaida Soriano-Rincon, 33, of Middletown, for second-degree manslaughter after the death of a 2-year-old child.

The investigation began on September 19, after an unresponsive 2-year-old girl was taken to a healthcare facility on Benton Avenue in Middletown.

City of Middletown Police responded to the scene and transported the child to Garnet Health Medical Center.

The New York State Police then took over the investigation, and the victim was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Police determined that the child had been left unattended in an unoccupied vehicle for over eight hours while Soriano-Rincon was at work.

Authorities said the location and the temperature inside the unventilated car led to the child’s death.

The two-month investigation involved the Troop F Major Crimes Unit, the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Middletown and Montgomery, and Orange County Child Protective Services.

State Police were assisted by the City of Middletown Police Department.

Soriano-Rincon was arrested and processed at State Police Middletown on November 18, and arraigned at Orange County Court Central Arraignment Part.

Soriano-Rincon was remanded to Orange County Jail with bail set at $250,000 cash, $500,000 bond, or $1,000,000 partially secured bond.
