Man sentenced to 30 years for homicide in Bayonne

BAYONNE, NJ — A man has been sentenced to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison in connection with a 2020 homicide.

Erick Acosta, 37, of Bayonne, was sentenced Wednesday by the Honorable Nesle A. Rodriguez after previously pleading guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter.

The case stems from an incident on Oct. 9, 2020, when members of the Bayonne Police Department responded to 30 Lord Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. to perform a welfare check.

Responding officers found an unresponsive female with visible trauma upon arrival.

The victim was identified as Crystal Ojeda, 40, of Bayonne.

Ojeda was pronounced dead at approximately 1:55 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and body and the manner of death to be homicide.

Hudson County Assistant Prosecutors David Feldman and John Caruso represented the state at sentencing.
