SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Police Department has been awarded $28,260 in grant funding through the Byrne Justice Grant Program.
The funding will support public safety initiatives and equipment upgrades, police said.
A portion of the grant will fund the Safety Net tracking system, which helps law enforcement locate individuals with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other cognitive disabilities who may wander or become lost.
The Traffic Division will receive commercial vehicle weight scales to support commercial vehicle enforcement and compliance efforts.
The grant will also fund upgrades to crash reconstruction equipment to improve the accuracy and efficiency of collision investigations.
The department will acquire two less-than-lethal projectile launchers, giving officers additional non-lethal options to safely de-escalate encounters involving assaultive individuals.
Some of the funding will be used to purchase new eye and ear protection for officers for use during firearms training.
The grant is made available through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
