WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA — Two people wanted in connection with an intentionally set fire in Holyoke were arrested at a hotel Monday morning, and police say they found a ghost gun and trafficking weight of cocaine during the arrest.
Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan announced that Holyoke Police Detectives assisted the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit in executing arrest and search warrants.
The arrests stem from a fire that occurred at 268 Pine Street in Holyoke on Nov. 4 around 6 a.m.
Holyoke Police Officers responded to the active fire on the second floor, and the only person inside was able to get out safely.
Holyoke Firefighters extinguished the fire.
Holyoke Firefighters and the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit investigated and determined the fire was intentionally set.
Investigators identified two suspects, Naysha Dones and Anthony Ortiz-Correa.
On Monday, members of the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit applied for and were granted arrest warrants for the two suspects as well as search warrants for a vehicle and a hotel room the suspects were staying in.
Monday morning, members of the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, Massachusetts State Police VFAS, Holyoke Police Detectives, Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit, U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police Troopers assigned to B-3 and West Springfield Police Officers arrived at a hotel on Border Way in West Springfield to execute the warrants.
Investigators knocked on the door and placed the suspects under arrest.
During a search of the room, a loaded large-capacity handgun was recovered.
The firearm was determined to be a ghost gun loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition.
Investigators also recovered a trafficking weight of suspected cocaine that weighed approximately 105.5 grams.
Naysha Dones, 42, of Holyoke, is charged with arson of a dwelling, attempted murder, injuring a firefighter in the line of duty, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, cocaine trafficking 100-200 grams, unlicensed sell/possession of an assault weapon, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of a large-capacity firearm during the commission of a felony.
Anthony Ortiz-Correa, 39, of West Springfield, is charged with arson of a dwelling, attempted murder, injuring a firefighter in the line of duty, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license – subsequent offense, improper storage of a large capacity firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card, cocaine trafficking 100-200 grams, unlicensed sell/possession of an assault weapon, carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of a large-capacity firearm during the commission of a felony.
