Woman assaulted while walking with child in Howell Township

HOWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ — A woman walking with her 2-year-old child in a stroller was assaulted Nov. 17 on Pinewood Road near Cecilia Court.

The assault occurred at approximately 4:55 p.m.

The suspect approached the victim from behind, placed her in a chokehold and threw her to the ground, according to Howell Township police.

The suspect fled the area on foot when the victim screamed for help.

Police describe the suspect as a Black male with a thin build, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a gray hood, a dark-colored jacket with light-colored stripes on the sleeves, dark pants and white athletic-style sneakers.

Prior to the assault, the suspect was observed in the area of Pinewood Road, Cecilia Court, Violet Circle and Poppy Lane for an extended period of time.

Police released an image of an individual believed to be the suspect, captured by a dash camera in the area around the time of the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
