BRIDGEPORT, CT — Police arrested a city man Friday night after a stabbing at Wood Park near the intersection of Wood Avenue and Benham Avenue.

Evens Dorvelus, 46, of Bridgeport, was located by officers walking on Laurel Avenue minutes after the attack, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m.

He had a blood-covered knife in his possession when he was taken into custody.

The victim, a 37-year-old Bridgeport man, was transported by ambulance to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a wound to his neck.

He was expected to survive.

The motive for the stabbing was unclear.

Witnesses said the victim may have been attempting to diffuse a dispute between Dorvelus and a third man when he was stabbed.

Dorvelus was charged with assault in the first degree and breach of peace in the second degree.

He was given a bond of $100,000.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
