Man charged with burglary, menacing officer in Utica

UTICA, NY — A man was arrested after allegedly burglarizing an apartment and threatening police officers with a wooden object during his apprehension.

Utica Police units were dispatched to the 1400 block of Kemble Street at approximately 3 p.m. Nov. 13 regarding a burglary investigation.

Officers were informed that when the victim arrived home they noticed damage to their door and that the TV had been removed from the wall.

The victim stated they noticed one of the interior doors was closed, which is never the case.

As they entered further into the apartment, the victim witnessed an unknown male exit from the closed door room and flee from the apartment.

The victim began to record the suspect and informed officers that the male had entered a rear yard to an adjacent residence.

As officers arrived they located the male who then fled on foot into a nearby convenience store.

Officers pursued the male and witnessed him enter the store and proceed to the kitchen area.

The suspect grabbed a wooden object and began to threaten the officers with it.

Several officers then engaged with the male and a brief struggle ensued until they were able to place him into handcuffs.

Amir Bowman, 25, of Utica, was transported to the Utica Police Department.

He was charged with burglary in the second degree, menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, resisting arrest and harassment in the second degree.
