Man arrested on larceny charge in Ellenville

ELLENVILLE, NY — Police arrested a 42-year-old man following a month-long investigation into the theft of cash and unauthorized transactions from his mother’s checking account.

Jeffrey C. Wolcott, of Ellenville, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Police allege he stole over $6,000 using Cash App and made unauthorized transactions involving Apple and Amazon.

He also made withdrawals from bank ATMs in the village, and those amounts are still being calculated, according to police.

Additional charges will be filed in the coming days regarding those unlawful withdrawals, police said.

Wolcott was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony.

He was processed and arraigned in Ulster County CAP court and released with a full stay order of protection issued for his mother.

In a separate incident, police located and arrested a suspect who stole a pocketbook from a woman at a food pantry at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Alexander A. Smushkovich, 67, of Greenfield Park, was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

He was processed and issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Wawarsing court at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5.
