MILFORD, MA — A Whitinsville man was arrested after allegedly attempting to run over a victim with his pickup truck before assaulting him with a baseball bat outside a Main Street market.
The Milford Public Safety Communications Center received multiple 911 calls at 5:55 p.m. on Nov. 14 reporting a fight in which one male was assaulting another with a bat near Main Street Market, located at 315 Main Street.
Responding officers found a male with bleeding wounds to his head and face upon arrival.
The suspect had fled the area in a black GMC Sierra pickup truck.
At 6 p.m., members of the Hopedale Police Department conducted a motor vehicle stop of the suspect vehicle on Mendon Street in their town.
Hopedale police indicated the operator of the GMC Sierra had blood on his sweatshirt.
A review of on-scene CCTV footage showed the suspect, later identified as Andre Oliveira Gomes, 24, of Whitinsville, attempt to run the victim over with his GMC Sierra pickup truck before exiting the vehicle and assaulting him with a baseball bat.
At 6:20 p.m., Oliveira Gomes was arrested and transported to the Milford Police Department for booking.
The victim was transported to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester to be treated for injuries sustained in the assault.
Oliveira Gomes has been charged with assault and battery with dangerous weapon, assault and battery with dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault with intent to murder, assault with dangerous weapon, attempt to commit crime-armed robbery, disturbing the peace, furnishing false name/SSN upon arrest, forging/misusing RMV document and mayhem.
He is being held at Worcester House of Corrections on $100,000 bail.
