WAYNE, NJ — A woman with active warrants was arrested after allegedly assaulting two police officers at a Route 46 hotel.
Wayne Police Officers Harrison Kirby and Louis Trentacost were patrolling the Quality Inn parking lot on Route 46 at approximately 6:17 p.m. on Nov. 11 when they observed an occupied Volkswagen.
The officers recognized the occupant, Galaxistar Douglas, from a previous arrest and conducted a warrant check that revealed multiple active criminal warrants.
Officers Kirby and Trentacost approached Douglas and advised her she was under arrest for the outstanding warrants.
Douglas became argumentative and told the officers she would not allow them to arrest her.
The officers attempted to reason with Douglas and de-escalate the situation, but she became more hostile and refused to engage further.
Officers then attempted to remove Douglas from her vehicle, but she refused to let go of the steering wheel and began kicking Officers Kirby and Trentacost.
Douglas was pulled from the vehicle onto the pavement and resisted attempts to handcuff her, biting Officer Kirby on the arm.
Officers overpowered and handcuffed Douglas, then moved her to a patrol car for transport.
While being moved to the patrol car, Douglas spit on Officer Trentacost’s face.
At police headquarters, Douglas continued spitting and screaming and was placed in a cell.
An ambulance responded to transport her to a hospital for evaluation, but Douglas refused to exit the cell and had to be physically extracted by multiple officers.
She was evaluated, released and transported to the Passaic County Jail Intake Hub.
Officer Kirby went to a medical facility and received treatment for the bite wound he sustained in the struggle.
Douglas was charged with criminal mischief, two counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of a governmental function and throwing bodily fluids at law enforcement.
