FAIRFIELD, NJ — A Jersey City man faces weapons charges following a road rage incident on Nov. 11.
Averie Goden, 29, of Jersey City, was arrested after allegedly brandishing a handgun at a truck driver, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
At approximately 6:11 a.m., Fairfield officers were directing traffic on Fairfield Road due to a crash that had shut down Route 46 West for several hours overnight.
Officer Carmelo Caramanna was approached by a truck driver who said a male wearing a security-type uniform had brandished a handgun at him several minutes earlier.
Caramanna relayed the information, including a vehicle description and license plate, to other officers who were also in the area directing traffic.
Corporal James High located the suspect vehicle exiting from the Dey Overpass onto Route 46 West.
During a motor vehicle stop, Goden was found to be the driver of the vehicle, wearing a security uniform and armed with a handgun that was secured in a holster.
He was handcuffed and disarmed as officers investigated.
The victim positively identified Goden as the person involved.
Police determined that Goden worked as an armed security guard for Garda Inc. and was on his way to work at the time of the incident.
Goden was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing.
Police determined he was lawfully allowed to be carrying the weapon and licensed to work armed security.
Goden was charged with terroristic threats and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was transported to the Essex County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
