Man arrested on child exploitation charges in Clayton

CLAYTON, NY — A 34-year-old man was arrested Nov. 10 on multiple charges related to child sexual exploitation material, according to New York State Police.

Robert H. Bazinet, of Clayton, faces three counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child, a class D felony, and three counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, a class E felony.

He also was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a class A misdemeanor, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree for a loaded firearm, a class C felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree for an ammunition feeding device, a class D felony.

The arrest followed an investigation stemming from an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force search warrant related to the transmission of child sexual exploitation material via the internet.

The investigation was conducted jointly by members of the New York State Police Computer Crime Unit – Troop D, the New York State Police Special Operations Response Team, the Troop D Bureau of Criminal Investigation – Alexandria Bay, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force – Albany.

Bazinet was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP Court, where he was remanded to the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash, $50,000 secured bond, or $75,000 partially secured bond.

He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
