ARLINGTON, MA — Police are warning residents about scammers spoofing the department’s non-emergency phone number to impersonate immigration authorities.
The Arlington Police Department has received multiple reports of fraudsters using the number 781-643-1212 to falsely claim they are police officers, according to a department alert.
The scammers are attempting to intimidate victims into providing personal or financial information.
Police said the department will never call to demand personal information or payment over the phone.
Residents who receive suspicious calls should hang up immediately and not share personal details, Social Security numbers or payment information, police said.
Anyone uncertain about a call can contact the department directly at 781-643-1212 or visit the station in person.
