CHICOPEE, MA — A traffic stop for an expired inspection sticker led to the arrest of a man found carrying a loaded handgun, police said.
An officer monitoring traffic in the 800-900 block of Chicopee Street observed a motor vehicle with an expired inspection sticker at approximately 9:12 p.m. Monday.
The officer conducted a check of the vehicle’s registration and learned that the registered owner had a suspended license.
A motor vehicle stop was conducted.
The operator of the vehicle was identified as Romario Roberts, 28, of Holyoke.
A check of his license showed that he had an active arrest warrant out of Holyoke District Court.
Roberts was asked to step out of the vehicle and secured in handcuffs.
Prior to putting Roberts in the back of the cruiser, a pat frisk for weapons was conducted.
Roberts stated he had a weapon and indicated it was a gun.
Officers located a loaded 9mm handgun in Roberts’ waistband.
When asked to produce his license to carry, Roberts stated he did not have one.
Roberts was arrested and charged with no inspection sticker, warrant, firearm carry without a license, loaded firearm carry without a license, possess ammunition without an FID and possess large capacity feeding device.
