NEW HARTFORD, NY — Two 13-year-olds face felony charges after allegedly stealing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from Walmart on Commercial Drive.
New Hartford police responded to the store at approximately 5 p.m. Thursday after a loss prevention officer reported multiple juveniles were concealing merchandise inside the store.
Officers and loss prevention staff began apprehending two juveniles for larceny when a 13-year-old female physically resisted arrest, police said.
A parent of one of the juveniles interfered with officers attempting to detain the juveniles during the incident, according to police.
Both juveniles were taken into custody without injury.
Police recovered the stolen merchandise valued at over $1,000.
A 13-year-old female was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.
A 13-year-old male was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Both juveniles were released on appearance tickets returnable to the Oneida County Probation Department.
Additional charges against the parent are pending.
