HAMPTON, NH — Police have identified the man who died in an e-scooter crash over the weekend.
Joseph M. Pepin, 34, of Hampton, was found unconscious and not breathing on Ashworth Avenue near G Street at approximately 12:54 a.m. Saturday.
Hampton police received a 911 call reporting a person down on the ground in the area.
Responding officers found Pepin, who appeared to have been involved in an accident with his e-scooter.
Hampton Fire and Rescue responded, and Pepin was declared deceased at the scene.
Investigators determined the scooter was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
Police said Pepin had been operating the scooter on a sidewalk, headed northbound on Ashworth Avenue near G Street, when he lost control and crashed.
Pepin was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
“This is a very unfortunate and tragic event. Our thoughts are with Mr. Pepin’s family and friends at this time,” Chief Alex Reno said.
The case remains under investigation.
