Two arrested in stolen vehicle case in West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two New Haven men were arrested after a police officer spotted a stolen Subaru and cornered it on a dead-end street on Oct. 31.

A West Haven Police officer observed the stolen vehicle traveling on Boston Post Road around 12:15 p.m. and followed it until it was safe to attempt a traffic stop.

The driver attempted to elude the officer by turning onto a dead-end street.

The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle.

The driver tried to maneuver around the patrol car, but the officer pinned the Subaru against a chain-link fence.

Two men were arrested without incident.

A search of the vehicle revealed several stolen credit cards and a small amount of narcotics.

The driver was identified as Marcelas Hines, 40, of New Haven.

He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, along with several narcotic- and credit card-related offenses.

The passenger was identified as Jared Benjamin, 28, of New Haven.

He was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, as well as credit card and narcotics offenses.

Benjamin had nine outstanding warrants from area police departments.

Hines was held on $100,000 bond and appeared in Milford Superior Court.
