Sex offender arrested after foot chase in Rockland

ROCKLAND, ME — A 23-year-old man faces multiple charges after police found him sleeping in an unregistered van and he allegedly provided false information before fleeing on foot.

Officers on patrol located a van with no registration plates parked at a business after hours at approximately 2 a.m. Nov. 8.

During the investigation, officers found a man sleeping inside the vehicle.

The man initially provided a false name and date of birth, according to police.

Through their investigation, officers identified the man as Jonathon Daugherty, of Arkansas.

Daugherty was found to have a non-extraditable warrant out of Arkansas for failure to appear and failure to register as a sex offender.

Daugherty attempted to flee on foot during the encounter with law enforcement.

After a brief foot pursuit, Daugherty was apprehended.

Daugherty was being held at the Knox County Jail on charges of failure to comply with sex offender registration, refusal to submit to arrest or detention and failing to provide correct name and date of birth.
