MAMAKATING, NY — Two men were arrested on weapons charges Nov. 4 after state police found them near an abandoned stolen vehicle on State Route 17.
Troopers responded at approximately 11:13 p.m. to a report of four individuals walking along State Route 17 near Exit 116.
The investigation revealed the four had been seen near an abandoned 2019 Infiniti that had been reported stolen out of Nassau County.
Troopers later located four individuals at the Citgo gas station on State Route 17K in Bloomingburg.
They were identified as Shane L. Williams, 21, of New York; Jeremiah Leckey, 22, of the Bronx; a 21-year-old male of Yonkers; and a 22-year-old male of the Bronx.
During interviews and a search, troopers recovered a loaded Beretta 9mm pistol from Williams that was later determined to be stolen.
Troopers recovered a pair of metal knuckles and a knife from Leckey.
Williams and Leckey were taken into custody.
The two other men were transported to the State Police Middletown barracks for questioning and released without charges.
Williams was charged with criminal possession of stolen property 4th degree, firearm, a class E felony; criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony; and criminal possession of a weapon 2nd degree, loaded firearm, a class C felony.
Leckey was charged with criminal possession of a weapon 3rd degree, previous conviction, a class D felony.
Both defendants were arraigned in the City of Middletown Court.
Williams was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $500 cash bail, $2,500 secured bond, or $2,500 partially secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Wallkill Court on Nov. 19 at 9 a.m.
Leckey was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail, $2,500 secured bond, or $2,500 partially secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Wallkill Court on Nov. 10 at 2 p.m.
