Police assist ICE agents during apprehension in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG, MA — The Fitchburg Police Department responded to two calls for assistance from Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents during a traffic stop and apprehension on Kimball Street on Thursday morning.

Police received the first call at approximately 7:10 a.m. requesting assistance during a traffic stop that turned into an attempted apprehension.

The department dispatched one patrol officer and one patrol supervisor to determine the nature of the request.

Once it was determined that the agents were in no danger, all members of the Fitchburg Police Department cleared the scene.

At approximately 8:03 a.m., a second call for assistance was made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who stated that a crowd was gathering and the agents were in danger.

The department dispatched one patrol officer, one patrol supervisor and one captain to determine the nature of the second request.

Units on scene confirmed that a crowd was gathering and that the situation was hostile.

More units were requested and dispatched to the scene to keep the peace.

A portion of Kimball Street was closed to motor vehicle traffic for a short period of time in an effort to keep all involved parties safe.

At approximately 8:57 a.m., the federal agents completed their apprehension by taking one adult female into custody.

There was a small child in the vehicle along with the female and an adult male.

The child and the adult male were allowed to leave the scene.

All Fitchburg Police officers cleared the scene without needing to take any enforcement actions.
