RUTLAND TOWN, VT — Vermont State Police have cited a 50-year-old man following a retail theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods on Nov. 4.
Troopers from the Rutland Barracks were notified of the theft at approximately 7:23 p.m.
Through investigation, troopers learned that Aaron Jones, of Essex Town, intentionally removed merchandise from the store without paying for it and set off the alarm system while leaving.
When contacted by troopers, Jones initially provided a false name to police.
Jones was later found to be in possession of the stolen merchandise, which was recovered and returned to the store.
Jones was issued a criminal citation on charges of retail theft, possession of stolen property and false reports to law enforcement.
He is scheduled to appear at Vermont Superior Court – Rutland Criminal Division on Feb. 23, 2026, at 10 a.m.
