Two men arrested on attempted grand larceny charges in New Cassel

NEW CASSEL, NY — Two Queens men were arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly attempting to break into vehicles at a Toyota dealership.

According to the Nassau County Police Department’s Third Squad, Zachary Dong, 21, of Elmhurst, and Victor Reyes, 21, of Queens, were taken into custody following an incident at the Westbury Toyota lot at 4:10 a.m. on Nov. 2.

Police said two individuals wearing all black with face coverings entered the dealership lot and attempted to access vehicles after normal business hours.

Third Precinct officers responded to the scene and located the defendants, who began to flee westbound on Old Country Road.

Verbal commands were given to both defendants to surrender.

Dong was placed into police custody without incident.

Reyes continued to flee westbound and was taken into custody outside of TD Bank on Old Country Road in Westbury.

Officers recovered a screwdriver from Dong’s pocket and a switchblade knife from Reyes.

A canvass of the scene yielded a discarded black face covering and an “AUTEL” Vehicle Security Bypass Device concealed under a commercial dumpster.

Dong was charged with attempted grand larceny in the third degree, possession of burglary tools and criminal trespass in the third degree.

Reyes was charged with attempted grand larceny in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and criminal trespass in the third degree.

Both defendants were also charged under Title 90-Mask Transparency Act.
