Man arrested after shots fired call in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, MA — A Springfield man was arrested early Sunday morning after police responded to a report of shots fired on State Street.

WESTCOMM Regional Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 5:48 a.m. Nov. 2 reporting shots being fired in the 0-100 block of State Street.

The caller provided a description of a suspect vehicle and told dispatchers the vehicle was now parked in the 0-100 block of Beverly Street.

Officers located the suspect vehicle and observed it was occupied by two men.

Officers approached the vehicle and asked both the operator and passenger to step out due to the shots fired report.

The passenger was identified as Robert Irizarry and the operator was identified as Fernando Resto.

Neither man had a weapon on them, but a loaded Ruger pistol was located inside the vehicle.

Both men were asked to produce a License to Carry and both stated they did not have one.

Based on the description provided by the caller and the location of where the firearm was found, Irizarry was placed under arrest.

Robert Irizarry, 31, of Springfield, was charged with firearm discharge within 500 feet of a building, disturbance while carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
