WALLINGFORD, VT — A two-vehicle head-on collision on Vermont Route 103 sent one driver to the hospital with serious injuries on October 13.
Vermont State Police from the Rutland Barracks responded to the crash at approximately 9:01 a.m. on Route 103 south of Roger Hill Road.
Police said Michael Davis, 21, of Barton, was driving a 2019 GMC Sierra northbound on Route 103 when he failed to navigate a right curve and crossed the centerline into the southbound lane.
Davis’ vehicle collided head-on with a 1992 Peterbilt 377 driven by Martin Machain, 61, of Rutland, who was traveling southbound.
Davis sustained serious bodily injuries and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center before being transferred to UVM Medical Center.
Machain was not injured in the crash.
Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage.
The crash occurred during cloudy, rainy weather on wet roads.
Davis was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic, no license, operation after suspension, texting while driving, and basic rule speeding.
He is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Rutland Criminal Division, on Jan. 5, 2026, at 10 a.m.
The Wallingford Fire Department, Mt Holly Fire Department, Clarendon Fire Department, and Wallingford Rescue assisted at the scene.
