Man arrested in assault case in Hopkinton

HOPKINTON, NY — New York State Police arrested a man in connection with an assault that occurred more than two weeks earlier.

Tyler J. Huto, 22, of Winthrop, was taken into custody Oct. 30 at State Police barracks in Massena.

Police had responded to Sheldon Road in Hopkinton at approximately 1:48 a.m. Oct. 12 for a report of a menacing complaint.

An investigation determined that Huto became irate and acted in a physical manner toward the victim while holding a shattered beer bottle.

Huto struck the victim with the broken bottle, causing a laceration to the victim’s hand.

Huto fled the scene prior to the troopers’ arrival.

State Police members conducted an active search for Huto.

Huto responded to the Massena barracks Oct. 30, where he was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Huto was arraigned in Massena Town Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
