SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA — A police officer conducting a welfare check arrested a man on a drug charge after a crack pipe fell from his pocket.
A Yarmouth police officer spotted a man walking in the breakdown lane on Station Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.
The man was limping and partially bent over, prompting the officer to turn around and check on him.
The man had a medical issue and requested a ride to a neighboring town.
He accepted transport to the hospital from a Yarmouth Fire Department ambulance.
While walking to the ambulance, a crack pipe fell from his pocket and shattered on the ground.
Officers then located a bag of crack cocaine in his possession.
Damon Legeyt, 45, of Hyannis was arrested and charged with possession of a Class B drug.
Legeyt was also wanted on three outstanding warrants.
