Loaded firearm seized in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Police arrested a man and seized a loaded firearm on Fort Pleasant Avenue on Sunday morning.

Officers from the Springfield Police C3 Unit arrested Jahleo Paquin, 27, of Springfield, at approximately 10:10 a.m.

C3 officers were conducting a park and walk patrol in the area of Fort Pleasant Avenue around 10 a.m.

The Springfield Police Department has received several complaints from citizens about breaking and entering, trespassing, loitering and open-air drug activity in the area.

Officers observed Paquin loitering and smoking a marijuana cigarette.

As officers approached Paquin to inform him that smoking marijuana in public is a city ordinance violation, officers located a loaded firearm in his fanny pack.

Paquin was placed under arrest.

He is charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, loitering and consuming marijuana in a public place.
