Wrong-way driver stopped on Interstate 295 in Bowdoinham

BOWDOINHAM, ME — A Virginia man was arrested after driving the wrong way on Interstate 295 on Friday night.

Maine State Police Troop I members were dispatched at approximately 11:30 p.m. to reports of a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near mile marker 37.

As troopers responded and attempted to position themselves ahead of the vehicle, additional reports continued to come in.

A Troop I trooper positioned himself in a crossover and observed the suspect vehicle traveling north in the southbound lanes.

The trooper safely entered the roadway and successfully boxed the vehicle in, bringing it to a stop.

The driver was identified as Rashard Robinson, 26, of Chesapeake, Virginia.

Robinson was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Kennebec County Jail.

He was charged with Operating Under the Influence and Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon.
