Man arrested on drug charges in Ulster

ULSTER, NY — A Hyde Park man was arrested early Sunday morning after a traffic stop on Interstate 87 led to the discovery of illegal drugs.

At approximately 3:46 a.m. on Oct. 19, troopers from Troop T Albany observed a 2016 Honda traveling north on Interstate 87 near exit 19 in the town of Ulster in violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Troopers initiated a traffic stop and interviewed the driver, a 19-year-old male from Kingston, and the front-seat passenger, Kevin A. Campagne, 19, of Hyde Park.

During the investigation, K9 Ash conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert for narcotics.

A search of Campagne’s person resulted in the discovery of approximately 56 grams of PCP (Phencyclidine).

A subsequent search of the driver and the vehicle yielded negative results.

The driver was issued multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

Campagne was arrested and transported to State Police Kingston for processing.

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree (intent to sell), a class B felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd degree (phencyclidine – 1250 milligrams or more), a class B felony.

Campagne was arraigned at the Ulster County Central Arraignment Part of the Town of Ulster Court and released on his own recognizance.

He appeared in the Town of Ulster Court on Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m.
