PITTSFORD, NY — A former St. John Fisher University student was arrested after allegedly violating an order of protection by returning to campus.
Shalom J. Mathews, 20, of Brighton, was charged with criminal contempt in the second degree and trespass.
University security contacted the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 28 and reported they believed Mathews had been on campus earlier in the week.
Mathews was banned from campus following his arrest for an attempted knife attack of a staff member on Feb. 28, 2024.
In connection with that attack, Mathews was arrested for attempted kidnapping in the second degree and attempted sexual abuse in the first degree.
A judge issued an order of protection protecting the staff member and prohibiting Mathews from being on campus.
The university expelled Mathews.
The sheriff’s office conducted a joint investigation with St. John Fisher Campus Security and confirmed Mathews violated the order of protection when he drove onto campus in his vehicle on the morning of Oct. 24.
Mathews, who is currently on probation for the original knife attack, was taken into custody on the evening of Oct. 29.
Mathews was arraigned in Monroe County CAP Court on Oct. 30.
He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 13.
