Man dies after crash in Charlton

CHARLTON, MA — A man died Thursday after his vehicle crashed into a stone wall on Southbridge Road.

The Charlton Police Department received multiple calls reporting a motor vehicle crash on Southbridge Road, also known as Route 169, near the Southbridge line at approximately 4:15 a.m. on October 30.

Emergency personnel from the Charlton Police Department and Charlton Fire Department responded to the scene where they located evidence of a crash involving a single motor vehicle occupied only by a male operator.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle involved, a 2012 Honda Fit, was traveling northbound on Southbridge Road when it traveled off the surface of the roadway, colliding with a stone wall.

The operator of the vehicle suffered significant injuries and was transported to UMASS-Harrington Memorial Hospital by Charlton Fire Department Ambulance, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Charlton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

The scene was cleared at approximately 8:15 a.m.
