MERIDEN, CT — A softball umpire accused of inappropriately touching juvenile players during games in July has been arrested on multiple charges.
John Simone, 64, of Fairfield, was taken into custody on Oct. 23 by Danbury police during an unrelated traffic stop.
The Meriden Police Department received a complaint in July regarding an umpire who inappropriately touched several juvenile softball players over the course of two separate softball games.
The department’s Special Crimes Unit obtained game footage via search warrant and conducted several interviews.
Investigators obtained three separate arrest warrants for Simone, one for each victim.
After his arrest, Simone was brought to the Meriden Police Department where he was processed and released after posting court-set surety bonds totaling $90,000.
Simone faces seven counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree and seven counts of risk of injury to a minor.
He is scheduled to appear in Meriden court on Nov. 7.
