DELHI, NY — A 19-year-old man was arrested on drunken driving and fleeing charges after police say he was clocked driving 90 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Alexander B. Karageorge, of Mohegan Lake, New York, was arrested at approximately 9:35 p.m. Saturday, according to Delhi Police Chief Michael T. Mills.
A Delhi Police officer observed a vehicle traveling at 90 mph in a 25 mph zone on Main Street at approximately 9 p.m.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated, turning onto Clinton Street without signaling and entering a private driveway with its headlights off, police said.
The driver attempted to exit the vehicle and enter a nearby residence but was detained by police without further incident, according to the release.
Officers observed signs of impairment, and Karageorge failed standardized field sobriety testing, police said.
Chemical testing determined his blood alcohol concentration to be 0.12%, according to police.
Karageorge was charged with unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with .08% or more BAC, speed in zone and improper turn/failure to signal.
He was processed and released on appearance tickets returnable to Delhi Town Court on Nov. 25.
