HOLYOKE, MA — A woman was arrested after police say she stole the contents of a package from a home on Dwight Street.
Holyoke Police Sergeant Dustin Summers observed a woman in the area of Dwight Street and Monroe Street on a bicycle around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
The woman, later identified as Doris Valentin, put down her bike and walked onto a property with a “No Trespassing” sign and appeared to be checking a package at the home, police said.
Sergeant Summers approached Valentin and began a conversation.
It became clear that Valentin did not live there, police said.
Valentin then jumped on the bike and began riding away.
Sergeant Summers caught up to her on the bike.
Valentin then began to run away.
Officer James Kennedy arrived to assist and placed Valentin under arrest.
Sergeant Summers went to look at the package at the home, which was now empty.
Officers located several suspected stolen items on Valentin.
Valentin also had two outstanding arrest warrants, police said.
Doris Valentin, 44, of Holyoke is charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, two counts of wanton destruction of property, assault and battery on a police officer and two arrest warrants.
